I bought a bunch of these cheapo wine glasses from the Dollar Tree because I like to entertain a lot. These work great for drinking glasses as well as pretty parfait/ trifle vessels. Appearance does matter but it doesn't have to break the bank.
The original recipe didn't say how many this fed so I bought enough to triple if needed and made a batch at a time until I had enough for my dinner party of 9. In the end I would guesstimate that this recipe will make 5 servings. This is sweet but not too rich .It is very filling though and half of my guests were unable to finish the whole glass.
Ingredients
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1 -8 oz container whipped cream, defrosted
- 1 can sweetened condensed milk
- 1/2 cup sugar divided
- 1/2 tsp lemon juice
- 1/3 cup melted butter
- 1 1/4 cup graham cracker crumbs
- 1 can cherry pie filling
FOR THE trifle:
- medium to large mixing bowl, microwave safe
- microwave safe bowl for butter
- small to medium mixing bowl for graham crackers
- 5 wine/trifle glasses
- 3 regular spoons, 1 for crumb, 1 for pie filling, 1 for cheesecake filling
- measuring spoon
- whisk or hand mixer
utensils you will need:
Directions
FOR THE TRIFLE:
- In small bowl melt butter, stick butter is easiest to measure as it has the 1/4, 1/2 1/3 cup, etc already marked,in microwave for about 30 seconds
- In medium bowl mix graham cracker crumbs, 1/4 cup sugar, and melted butter with regular eating spoon. it will still have a crumb texture. You do not want wet bread crumbs
- In large bowl whisk or beat softened cream cheese (you can cheat by taking cheese out of foil and microwaving in a bowl for 60 seconds) with can of sweetened condensed milk and 1/4 cup sugar
- Fold in whipped cream and lemon juice
- Set up your glasses, graham crackers with spoon, cream cheese mix with spoon, and opened can of cherry pie filling with spoon
- Careful not to touch the rim of the glasses (remember appearance matters), begin layering by scooping one spoon full of graham crackers into each glass, followed by 2 spoon fulls of cheesecake mix, and lastly 1 spoon full of cherry pie mix
- Repeat 1 time
I made this desert before I ever started on the dinner and sat it in the fridge to chill though it can be served immediately.
Nothing I love more than super simple deserts that look like you spent hours making them :)
